The World Poker Tour just achieved a major milestone by paying out their one billionth dollar at the WPT Legends of Poker tournament!

Marking 15 years, the WPT has come a long way over this time, transforming into one of the biggest names in poker tournaments behind only the WSOP! The WPT has not only contributed to the development and growth of poker games around the globe that have turned the image of poker from a monotonous game into a popular and interesting sport, but they have also targeted emerging markets to extend the reach of poker beyond the usual suspects. A recent such development is the decision of the WPT to invest in the Indian market.

AT the WPT event in Bicycle Hotel & Casino, California 763 entries made a prize pool of  $2,738,407. As luck would have it, the WPT achieved the mark of paying out $1,000,000,000 when T.J. Shepherd exited in 47th place.  He was further rewarded with a free entry to the same tournament next year and, like the 46 others who finished above him, got a container of COLOR Wine (a sponsor of the WPT).

Day 4 of the Legends of Poker championship is yet to find a winner. The event still has plenty of big names left in the field including the current chip leader J.C. Tran, Phil Hellmuth, “Mad” Marvin Rettenmaier, Jason Les, David “Doc” Sands, Tuan Le and David “ODB” Baker.
