The November Nine format had been divisive with fans on both sides advocating its relative gains. However, poker purists, who’ve long been calling for the change, are expected to be thrilled.

Increased Live Coverage For The WSOP

The amount of live coverage, which will be with a 30-minute delay, is to be significantly increased under the new terms of the deal. A statement by Poker Central said, “Poker Central is excited to announce the acquisition of the global television and digital media rights to the World Series of Poker. An agreement has also been reached with ESPN to bring – for the first time – same day live coverage of the World Series of Poker from Day 1 of the Main Event until the winner is crowned.”

Gujarat High Court Adjourns IPA Plea

The Gujarat High Court adjourned the petition filed by the Indian Poker Association (IPA) to 9th June. It was filed by top lawyer KN Suresh on behalf of the Indian Poker Association (IPA). The petition was in response to recent crackdown by the state cops on poker rooms in Ahmedabad and Surat.

The petition will now be heard on 9th June and will be tagged with similar petitions filed by other clubs.

Online Poker To Be Unaffected by GST

If things go as expected, then online poker sites will not be greatly affected by the upcoming GST. As an online skill game, poker sites are likely to be taxed at 18% under the new tax laws. With a marginal increase over the current 15% tax paid by poker sites, players are unlikely to see any increased burden being conversely levied on them.

Casinos, lotteries and betting on horse racing are, however, expected to be taxed at the highest bracket of 28%.

Mike Sexton To Join partypoker As Chairman

Mike Sexton will soon be swapping his ambassadorial position at partypoker for that of the Chairman’s. He will also be quitting as a commentator on the WPT – a position he held for over 15 years. “It has been an honour and a privilege to work with the World Poker Tour since its inception in 2002,” Sexton said in a release from the WPT. Sexton has been a part of the WPT since its very inception and the goodbyes were expectedly emotional.
