Zarvan Tumboli From India Lifts The Ho Chi Minh Cup At The 2018 WPT Vietnam

Indian player Zarvan Tumboli wins the Ho Chi Minh Cup at the WPT Vietnam 2018. This MadOverPoker pro defeated Vietnam’s Luat Tran to bag a prize money of ₹7.70 Lakh. The World Poker Tour 2018 is being hosted at the Pro Poker Club in Ho Chi Minh City and the Indian entourage is making headlines one after the other.

After Sumit Sapra finishing runner-up at the Welcome Event and Tumboli winning the Ho Chi Minh Cup, Team India is sailing super smooth at the WPT Vietnam.

The Ho Chi Minh Cup

Registering a total of 207 entries, the Ho Chi Minh Cup kicked off in the freezeout format. 114 players entered through the first flight and 93 through the second. However, only 28 made into Day 2 from hereon.

Right from the beginning, Team India put up an exemplary show with Rubin Labroo, Dhaval Mudgal, Abhinav Iyer, Zarvan Tumboli, and Akshay Nasa, all moving into Day 2.

Akshay Nasa (29,000)

Top three stack-holders of the day were Nick Gorman (284,000), Thai Sang Bao Huy (225,000) and Ayman Elsaid (212,000).

Final Table

As the final table hit off, the first player to exit at the ninth place was Malaysian pro-Shyh Chyn Lim. He was followed by Nguyen Hoang Ton in eighth place.

Rubin Labroo of India made an impressive finish at seventh place.

Later, Lee Wei Chan (6th place), Tran Duc Nghia (5th place), Nguyen Vu Thanh (4th place) and Ayman El-Said (3rd place) walked out one after the other to set the table for a heads-up between Vietnam’s Luat Tran and India’s Zarvan Tumboli.

Leading with a huge chip margin, Tumboli made it difficult for his opponent to bridge the gap. In spite of a double-up, Tran couldn’t manage to last long. In the final hand, Tumboli’s king-jack gave him a higher kicker against Tran’s 10-5 when the board blanked out. Tumboli picked up his first-ever WPT title and the prize money of ₹7,70,527.

Other Attractions

Another event catching limelight at the 2018 WPT Vietnam is- the Main Event where 105 entries registered on Day 1. The likes of Kunal Patni, Vivek Rughani, Nishant Sharma, GPL India Bengaluru Hackers manager Vidwath Shetty, Vinod Megalmani and Chiraag Patel were seen making their way into the event. However, amongst them, Shetty (99,000), Megalmani (86,000), Sharma (85,500) and Patel (41,500) advanced into Day 2. 26 players made into Day 2 led by Tran Hanh (437,000) Kazuma Ihotsume (203,000) and Tran Huu Khoi (162,000) as top three stack holders.

Also, the Bounty Event running alongside has gathered steam enough to sizzle at the WPT Vietnam. 132 players started off the show which quickly whittled down to 9 players for the final table. Leading the table is Yik Yin “Ray” Chiu with 492,000.
