Sumit Sapra makes India proud by claiming the runner-up title at the WPT Vietnam Welcome Event. The Indian poker pro missed the title very closely to Nguyen Dang Toan of Netherlands. The winner bagged the top payday of VND 260,000,000 and Sapra banked a pay cheque of VND 163,720,000.
A Welcoming Event
Amidst several events underway at the WPT Vietnam, the Welcome Event made its own mark with 137 entries. The buy-in was tagged at VND, 7,700,000 and top 18 places got paid. Kunal Patni and Dhaval Mudgal also represented India at the event but, couldn’t cash at the tables.
With the highest chip count of 214,000, Nguyen Dang Toan led the final table of nine players. Notables like Alan king Lun Lau and Julien Tran were also seen at the final table.
The Final Table
The elimination streak started with Nguyen Ngoc Thien An leaving at the ninth place. After losing a big hand against Xuan Hong, Alan King Lun Lau made an exit next. Thai Seng Bao Huy finished seventh and Julien Tran lost his ace-jack to Toan’s pocket jacks to walk out at the sixth place. A few hands later, Dung Pro lost his contention and was sent to the rail at fifth place. After Hong ended his run, Sapra and Toan clashed in a heads-up. It was Sapra’s 750,000 chips against Toan’s 1.3 million. In the final hand when Sapra’s pocket 7s were pitted against Toan’s king-jack, the board ran king-9-5-10-8 spiking a higher pair for Toan.

The WPT Ho Chi Minh Cup is here to spice up the excitement at the Pro Poker Club. Two starting flights h gathered a field of 207 contenders at the end of Day 1. However, only 28 proceeded to Day 2. Dhaval Mudgal from India has stacked 130,000. Accompanying him are other countrymen Rubin Labroo (173,000), Abhinav Iyer (115,000), Zarvan Tumboli (83,000) and Akshay Nasa (29,000) who have entered Day 2.
