Female poker pro, Wendy Freedman, emerged victorious out of 496 runners at the Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) Black Hawk Main Event $1,650. Along with the coveted trophy, she also tanked the top prize of $167,696.
The win in itself is a notable achievement because Freedman is the second woman to win an HPT Main Event title after Teresa Hemingway who had won this prestigious title in 2013. With this win, Freedman’s live earnings have surpassed the $1 Million benchmark. She has two WSOPC rings to her name and has also reached two final tables in the WSOP. Recently, Freedman scored a 26th place finish at the WinStar River Poker Series $2,500 Main Event.
The event ran over a span of 2 days and the final 54 players cashed a handsome prize in the end.
The final table rounded off with 9 players. Owing to a short stack, Carl Oman was the first one to exit the final table. Next, Rich Alsup was eliminated in the eighth place at the hands of the would-be champion. Shawn Roberts was railed in the seventh place, followed by Chris Barrett and Alex Greenblatt in the sixth and fifth place respectively.
Post Alex’s elimination, it was Corey Zedo whose aces were cracked by Freedman to rail Zedo in the fourth place. Lastly, Paul Richardson’s elimination at the third place paved way for a heads-up between Freedman and Mark Morris.
Freedman entered the heads-up with nearly 2.5 times more chips than Morris had. Plus, Freedman tabled while Morris held .
