The Indian poker industry celebrated the Independence day with pomp and pleasure. Every online website made efforts to make the 72nd independence anniversary memorable for the players. 15th of August, 2018, had multiple online poker tournaments scheduled on it and it was a day of real FOMO for the Indian poker enthusiasts. While most of the online poker websites rolled out exciting online tournaments, Purple Poker decided to involve their players even more. The poker company organised for a live poker tournament for its players in and around Bangalore- The Freedom Blast Tournament.
On the 15th of August, Champs of Aces Poker Club in Koramangala, Bangalore, hosted this mammoth live poker tournament. The guaranteed prize pool was a whopping INR 10 lakh!
The field was 81 players strong with 40 re-entries. The minimum buy-in was INR 7,700. The top 19 players returned with a good paycheck while the title winner Rubin Labroo shipped the handsome prize money of INR 2,15,000 along with the trophy.
Labroo is a regular in the poker circuit. He is proficient in both online and live poker. Also, he has won multiple titles in both genres in the past. This year he had two great achievements- in February he took down the Elite PLO High Roller in The Spartan Poker’s Quickie Series and then he shipped the PokerBaazi Premier League (PPL) Main Event in June which was also his biggest online poker win.
To make it easy for the players, Purple Poker also ran regular satellites on their website. The huge success of the tournament has motivated the company to a great extent. Apparently, Purple Poker will be hosting another live tournament, next month in Kolkata.
“I had come to Bangalore to meet some friends. Last minute, I decided to play the Freedom Blast Event, and won it. It was a great and well-managed tournament. Thanks to Purple Poker for organising such an event,” commented Delhi-based Labroo about his tournament experience.
