Stephen Chidwick claws back his way to the top of 2018 GPI POY Rankings

English poker pro-Stephen Chidwick has made it back to the top of the race to the GPI Player of the Year title recently. He was running through several good performances at other notable poker tournaments across the world. Chidwick was briefly undertaken by the US poker pro-Justin Bonomo, who was also in the middle of a very good spell and had won several top championships in a row. These championships include the China Super High Roller Bowl, Vegas Super High Roller Bowl and the USD 1 million WSOP Big One for One Drop.

Chidwick: working smart

A determined Chidwick capitalized on a crucial aspect to get back in the business. He focused on earning Player of the Year points to come the other way around and steadily made it to the top of the 2018 POY list and overall rankings. The Englishman thus made the best use of his purple patch at various tournaments through the year to beat Bonomo at his own game.

Stephen Chidwick won the US Poker Open Championship and went on to show his masterclass at the final tables of various major tournaments over past several months. The Global Poker Index, a patent-pending ranking system that ranks over 4,50,000 poker players worldwide, has released its rankings for this week and Chidwick is sitting pretty at the top of both the 2018 POY list and overall rankings as we speak.

The number game

Stephen Chidwick checked a final table in a USD 5K tournament in the DeepStack Championship Poker Series at the Venetian and then went on to finish third in a recent tournament at the Triton SHR series in Jeju. These two heroics powered him to the top of the chase. Chidwick is thus sure to win the 2018 POY award, provided he keeps up the good work that he has done till now.

We are presenting the points table for your reference. As you can conclude from there, Chidwick has a formidable lead over his nearest competitor, Justin Bonomo. The former has enjoyed a dream run while being on top from last four months (or so nearly) while Bonomo has jumped from sixth to second position during the same period.
